Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement

Financial year ending March 2026 — Published in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015

1. Introduction

This statement is made on behalf of Hartleys Professional Tree Surgeons Ltd pursuant to Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It sets out the steps we have taken and are continuing to take to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business or supply chain.

We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships. We have zero tolerance for slavery and human trafficking in any form.

2. Our organisation

Hartleys Professional Tree Surgeons Ltd is an arboricultural services company based in Altrincham, Cheshire. We provide tree surgery, pruning, felling, stump removal, hedge work, and site clearance services to private residential and commercial clients across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Our workforce is small and directly employed or engaged on a self-employed basis. We do not use labour supply agencies or gang-based working arrangements.

3. Our supply chains

Our supply chains are limited in scope and include:

  • Equipment and tool suppliers (chainsaw machinery, PPE, rigging equipment)
  • Waste disposal and wood chip removal contractors
  • Vehicle and plant hire
  • Consumables (fuel, lubricants, safety materials)

We procure from established UK-based suppliers where possible. We do not source goods or services from high-risk regions without due diligence.

4. Due diligence and risk assessment

We assess the risk of slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains to be low, given the nature and scale of our business. However, we take the following steps to mitigate any risk:

  • All workers are verified to have the right to work in the UK before engagement
  • We pay at or above the National Living Wage and do not make deductions from pay for accommodation or equipment
  • Workers are free to leave employment without penalty
  • We do not use sub-contractors without verifying their employment practices
  • We maintain open-door communication so any concerns about exploitation can be raised confidentially

5. Training and awareness

Key members of our team are made aware of the signs of modern slavery and human trafficking. All staff are encouraged to report any concerns immediately to management. Concerns can also be reported anonymously to the Modern Slavery Helpline: 08000 121 700 or at modernslaveryhelpline.org.

6. Policies

We operate the following policies that support our commitment to acting ethically:

  • Equal opportunities and fair pay policy
  • Whistleblowing policy (raising concerns procedure)
  • Supplier code of conduct

7. Approval

This statement has been approved by the management of Hartleys Professional Tree Surgeons Ltd and will be reviewed and republished annually.
